You can use this form for certain new residence applications. This way it is not necessary to come to the counter for these procedures. You can only use this form if you already live in Ghent.

It includes these residence applications for non-European citizens:

• registration of short stay (residency of max. 3 months)
• registration with a visa type D (The date of this online application replaces your in-person registration with the city within the requested 8 days of arrival.)
• application for regularization on humanitarian grounds (procedure 9bis)

It includes all applications for European citizens:

• registration of short stay (residency of max. 3 months)
• registration of long stay (residency more than 3 months)

Attention! As of September 1st 2025, as a European citizen you must submit all documents at the start of your residence application. If the application is not complete, it will not be processed. On https://stad.gent/en/migration you can find more information about the different residence applications.

If you do not have an European birth or marriage certificate, then the certificate still needs a legalization or an apostille. For more information please visit https://diplomatie.belgium.be.
